Saba Celebrates More than 5 Million Public Sector Users

Customers Use Saba to Manage Workforce Development Initiatives

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., -- November 28, 2005 Saba (NASDAQ: SABA), a leading provider of human capital management (HCM) solutions, today announced that the total number of its government, aerospace and defense, energy and education users has topped 5 million. Saba supports leading public sector organizations including the Australian Defence Organisation, El Paso Energy, Georgia Department of Human Resources, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Los Angeles Department of Health Services, PhiloPubblico, Queensland Rail, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Center for Leadership Capacity Services (CLCS).

As technological changes, demographic trends and the effects of globalization drive the need for new and enhanced skills in the work place, public sector organizations around the world are focusing on ways to streamline and manage the development and talent of their workforces. In the U.S., President George W. Bush has established the Office of the 21st Century Workforce, which is tasked with identifying opportunities for workplace education, retraining, access to assistive technologies and skills upgrading.

Increasingly, public sector organizations are looking to e-learning content and technologies to quickly and effectively address their workforce development needs. So far in 2005, the U.S. Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), with an e-learning content library of more than 4,500 courses, has supported more than 2.3 million enrollments from its sailors, retirees, reservists, family members and the Navy’s civilian workforce.

As part of Saba’s commitment to serving the public sector community, the company is participating in the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2005, being held November 28 – December 2 in Orlando, Fla. Saba will be demonstrating Saba Content Management, the company’s second-generation learning content management system (LCMS), in booth 462 at the event. Unlike traditional LCMS solutions, Saba Content Management enables content development and delivery across the extended enterprise, supports multiple authoring tools, and provides deep integration into Saba Enterprise 2005, the company’s next generation HCM platform.

With more than 100 public sector customers, Saba brings broad and deep experience to its partnerships with these organizations. Saba solutions offer features that meet the specific needs of this market, including:

  • SCORM 2004 compliance – which supports the interoperability of SCORM-compliant government-off-the-shelf (GOTS), commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom content with Saba Learning
  • Saba Content Lab – is an online e-learning testing center with capabilities to test non-standard e-learning content, ensuring that the content works before customers provide the courses to their people
  • Section 508 compliance – which provides access for people with disabilities to Saba Enterprise 2005

“The skills and knowledge of today’s workers must evolve to align with tomorrow’s demographics and global influence,” said Raymond Maskell, Saba’s president of public sector. “We are pleased to support some of the largest and most advanced public sector learning organizations in the world, who rely on Saba’s technologies, services and processes to help them reap the benefits of the change.”
