Saba Extends Saba-Centra Reach to New Industries and Users

Saba-Centra Live 7.5 targets Apple Macintosh market with extended platform support and offers new assistive technology features

Redwood Shores, Calif. – February 13, 2007 — Saba, the premier Human Capital Management (HCM) software and services provider, has announced several enhancements to its Saba-Centra Live virtual classroom, training and real-time education software, enabling organizations to extend the benefits of real-time learning to even more users.

Support for Mac platform
Saba-Centra Live 7.5 now supports the Apple Macintosh platform, allowing academic students and corporate users with Mac systems to attend live, interactive classes. Learning organizations can also run sessions for audiences composed of both Mac and Windows users. Saba-Centra offers an intuitive, real-time learning solution for the Mac market, available as both an on-demand and on-premise solution.

“The availability of Saba-Centra on both the Macintosh and PC platforms allows us to now reach the entire universe of students and faculty members that could benefit from the product’s robust suite of learning features,” said Sharon Collins, Project Manager of Academic Outreach at East Carolina University. “The fact that Saba-Centra now supports the Mac platform helps my team fulfill its charter to have the faculty at all our schools--from nursing to construction management--take advantage of Saba-Centra’s real-time learning capabilities, including video conferencing and recording features. Saba-Centra has far exceeded expectations from both students and teachers, alike.”

ADA Section 508 features; ten languages supported
Saba-Centra now also features enhanced support for the American Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 508. Saba has added support for assistive technologies such as screen readers and a comprehensive set of keyboard shortcuts that enable visually and mobility-impaired users to navigate through the Saba-Centra user interface and access content, including evaluations. Because disabled users can interactively participate in sessions – not just receive information – companies can now leverage the knowledge of these employees virtually. Additionally, Saba has increased the number of Saba-Centra languages supported to ten, as part of the company’s continued expansion into EMEA, Asia and Latin America.

“The most effective learning programs enable students and employees to participate easily, using the platforms and interfaces they are most comfortable with and allowing them to integrate learning into their daily tasks,” said Bobby Yazdani, chairman and CEO at Saba. “These enhancements are part of our overall commitment to providing an intuitive learning solution that encourages user adoption and enables organizations to deliver training programs that can positively impact core business processes.”

Benefits for enterprises and academia
The new features are designed to support the increasing number of organizations across a growing range of industries that are adopting Saba-Centra Live to connect employees in remote locations or to deliver real-time learning to partners and customers. By using Saba-Centra in conjunction with Saba’s suite of learning, performance and talent management applications, many of these organizations benefit from a strategic, integrated solution for managing and optimizing their human capital.

The extended platform support also reflects Saba’s commitment to the academic market and was delivered in response to the needs of more than 100 universities, schools and colleges that currently use Saba-Centra. Academic institutions around the world are deploying Saba-Centra to deliver interactive classes to students and enable collaborative knowledge sharing across multiple campuses.

Saba-Centra has extended the availability of virtual classes and real-time collaborative knowledge sharing at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). “Through our Extended Learning Institute, Saba-Centra has greatly enhanced the reach of our online resources, particularly for our growing population of adult learners who depend on virtual classes for much of their coursework,” said Dan Alford, Instructional Technology Manager at NOVA’s Medical Education Campus. “Our students can participate in a live classroom experience from their workplace, home or any other convenient location. Faculty members routinely use Saba-Centra to tutor students and conduct online office hours. Saba-Centra’s enhanced features for ADA Section 508 requirements help advance NOVA’s goals of creating an inclusive community of learners, supporting communication between students and faculty and enabling an innovative learning environment.”

Enhancements to Saba-Centra Live 7.5 are available now both as licensed software and for on-demand customers.
